This is a stunning early 1950's black vintage dress from the famed late fashion designer Peggy Hunt, whose dresses are becoming increasingly rare to find and very collectable.
Los Angeles based Peggy Hunt began designing in the 1920' s and was the brilliant creator of what came to be called the 'illusion neckline', combining nude fabrics and layered lace to create a sheer, seductive effect.
This dress is a shift style, with round neckline and slimline, short sleeves.
The illusion neckline is exquisitely studded, on the front and back, with diamonte jewels.
It has a 48cm metal 'Rocket' branded, concealed zip running down the centre back, with a fine hook and eye closure at the top.
Because of its age, the dress carries no fabric composition labels, but it appears to be made from linen or a blend of linen and cotton. It is lined in what appears to be black polyester fabric.
It's in excellent condition for its age and appears to be virtually unworn. There is one very small hole measuring 3mm at the left shoulder where the nude fabric meets the body of the dress, which is hardly noticeable and does not detract from this amazing dress.
This dress is a fabulous example of the feminine, yet tasteful look she became famous for. A true vintage, collectable piece.
